She explained his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he managed.

Ruben engaged in a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the boys "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She explained the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, for good reason.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC explained materials including baby oil, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his concerns.

She explained Ruben continued to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The legal representative explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the police once more.

She explained the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five youngsters.
